Seiyuu

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 16, 2026

The short version: Seiyuu has no login, shows no ads, and doesn't track your browsing. To look up a cast, it sends only the current Crunchyroll page's address and title to our lookup service — nothing about you. Premium features use a random, anonymous ID on your device to count your monthly usage. If you subscribe to Pro, payment is handled by Stripe, which collects your email to manage the subscription; we never see your card.

What Seiyuu does

Seiyuu is a browser extension that, when you pause an episode on Crunchyroll, displays the show's characters and the voice actors who play them. It identifies the show using the page's metadata only. Optional premium features add deeper voice-actor details — filmographies, studio and theme information, and favorites.

Information the extension sends

When you pause a video on crunchyroll.com, the extension sends the following to the Seiyuu lookup service (seiyuu-production.up.railway.app) so it can find the right cast:

This information is used solely to identify the anime and return its cast. It is not linked to any identity, profile, or advertising system.

Premium features and payments

Premium features are metered: free members get a set number of premium "show unlocks" each month. To count this, the extension generates a random, anonymous identifier and stores it on your device. It is sent to the lookup service so we can track how many unlocks you've used this month and recognize an active Pro subscription. This identifier is random and is not linked to your name, email, or any profile. It is stored using Chrome's sync storage so your usage count and Pro status follow you across devices when you are signed into Chrome.

If you subscribe to Seiyuu Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your email and payment details at checkout — Seiyuu never sees or stores your card information. We store your email address only to manage your subscription and to let you restore Pro on a new device. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy.

Voice actors you mark as favorites are stored locally on your device and are not sent to our service.

What Seiyuu does NOT do

Where cast data comes from

Cast and voice-actor information is retrieved from the public AniList and Jikan (MyAnimeList) APIs. To stay within their rate limits, the lookup service temporarily caches cast results by show title. This cache contains anime metadata only — no user information.

Permissions the extension requests

Data retention

On your device, the extension stores your preferences, your favorites, and the anonymous ID; uninstalling removes them. On the lookup service, we store — keyed to your anonymous ID — your monthly premium-usage count, and, for Pro subscribers, your email and Stripe subscription identifiers, solely to manage and restore your subscription. You can request deletion of this data by emailing us.

Children's privacy

Seiyuu is a general-audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

This policy was updated when premium features and Pro subscriptions launched. If our data handling changes again, we will update this page.
